The Hugs Project is a nationwide ongoing project that started with one simple mission, to support our troops. They want to ensure that the troops know that they are fully supported and that they have not been forgotten back home. The “Hugs” are evaporative head and neck coolers to help keep the troops cool in the “sandbox” where temperatures can often reach 140+ degrees. The cooling ties, or “Hugs” are simple to make but the benefits are dramatic, they lower body core temperatures by 5+ degrees. The Hugs Project sends not only these cooling ties, but also fully stocked care packages. Starting in 2004, the organization has sent over 850,000 “Hugs”, over 150,000 books, and more than 365 TONS of care packages to our troops serving overseas. The reality is that many of our troops are living on bases with no place to by “luxury” items like socks and toothpaste, that is where the care packages have the most impact. There is no better way to say thank you to the men and women who put their lives on the line to ensure our safety than to send these packages from home.
