The Springfield Armory XDS 3.3 Single Stack 9mm features an Ultra Safety Assurance Action Trigger system. This system guards against accidental discharge from dropping or bumping it, by locking the trigger in place until direct rearward pressure is applied. The Loaded chamber indicator allows the shooter to verify without a doubt, visually or by touch, that there is a round in the chamber. All XD, XD(M) and XD-S models allow firing only when the shooter has a firm grip on the pistol. The traditional black oxide finish are a few millionths of an inch thick and offer little corrosion resistance. However, the rugged Melonite finish on the XD-S model is bathed in a salt bath nitriding process that leaves a deep penetrating finish that protects against corrosion. 
The XD-S disassembles just like the XD, however, with the XD-S The disassembly lever can not be manipulated with a magazine in the pistol. Additionally when the disassembly lever is up, a magazine can not be inserted into the pistol. The modified contour of the XD(M) grip was the inspiration for the maximum reach magazine release because it allows virtually any size hand the ability to release the magazine without twisting or adjusting from the shooting grip. The new XD-S trigger has a short travel along with a short reset which helps to keep you on target with greater ease for quicker, more accurate follow-up shots. A single-position Picatinny rail readily accpepts lights, lazers or other accessories. It is one of the only polymer pistols of its size hat has this feature. The ideal grip angle of the XD-S is accented by the 1″ single stack frame
The serrations on the XD-S not only make this firearm more attractive, they are functional. The slightly rounded design, extending to the top of the slide, limits the possibility of a snag when drawing the pistol. Your total XD-S Experience starts the minute you open your case. The rear sight on the XD-S is Low-Profile and holster friendly. Easier and faster target acquisition is achieved with a fiber optic fron sight. The “all terrain” look of the XD(M) has proven to work so well that the texture has ben enhanced for the XD-S with an even more pronounced texture to ensure your grip is always secure.
